Scientific seminars held in 2022 for PhD doctoral students
On March 19, 2022, a series of training scientific seminars for PhD doctoral students, graduate students, young scientists, organized by the Doctoral School of KSTU named after. I. Razzakova. The first seminar on the concept and content of the PhD dissertation was held by Prof., Dr. Danny Cho (USA), Department of Logistics, KSTU. A rich, interesting lecture introduced the audience to the basics of planning the content of a dissertation research, the main stages, possible obstacles and ways to overcome them. The lecture was based on the rich experience of organizing PhD research in the US, UK and Africa. The audience asked a lot of questions, the seminar was very interesting and fruitful.
On March 22, 2022, another scientific seminar was held for PhD and postgraduate students from the cycle of seminars prepared by the KSTU Doctoral School to improve the quality of training of young scientists. It was held in a mixed offline/online format.
It was attended by doctoral and postgraduate students of KSTU. The seminar was conducted by Prof. Nazarbayev University (Nursultan) Duyshon Shamatov in online format.
In the first part, the audience was offered the concept of research and the procedure for conducting it, which includes identifying the problem of research, determining the goal, reviewing the literature, etc. Listeners were involved in the presented material in an interactive form, offering their own version of research.
The second part of the seminar was devoted to the analysis of existing research paradigms - from positivism to constructivism, and here the listeners actively participated in the discussion of the proposed topic.
The seminar was very informative and interesting for the participants and will be useful to them for further scientific work.
On April 15, 2022, the next scientific seminar for PhD doctoral students and postgraduates was held. Topic: "Quantitative analysis of data for publications in journals indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science database". Moderator: Urmat Tynaliev, Ph.D., University of Minnesota, United States. During the seminar, the following important topics were considered and discussed:
• Rating of Kyrgyzstan by scientific publications in international journals.
• The main publishers of scientific journals in Scopus
• Acceptable methods of quantitative data analysis in scientific articles published in Scopus journals
• Testing hypotheses, and establishing the statistical significance of relationships or the difference of averages between variables
• T-test, Z-test, Chi square
• ANOVA/MANOVA
• Regression analysis methods – (cross-sectional data, time series, panel data, categorical data).
• Computer programs – Stata, SPSS, R, Python, etc.
The seminar participants were very interested, they actively participated in the discussion, asked a lot of questions.
