Technology of light industry products
Department of Technology of Light Industry Products (TILP) is the leading department in the Kyrgyz Republic for training specialists in the textile and light industry in the field 740700 – «Technology and Design of Light Industry Products» (qualifications: Bachelor, Master).
The department was established on September 7, 1989, under the name «Technology and Design of Sewing Products» and trained specialists with the qualification «Engineer-Technologist-Designer». The establishment and development of the department is largely due to the efforts of Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, and State Prize laureate in Science and Technology, Imankulova Ayim Satarovna.
In 1990, new specialties were introduced at the department: «Knitting Technology», «Technology and Design of Leather Products», and «Leather and Fur Technology». In 1991, these specialties were separated into the independent department «Leather and Fur Technology. Technology of Leather Products».
In 1994, the departments «Leather and Fur Technology. Technology of Leather Products» and «Technology and Design of Sewing Products» were merged to form the Department of «Technology of Light Industry Products» (TILP).
In 1995, the specialty «Artistic Product Design» was opened, focused on training fashion designers. In 2009, an independent department «Artistic Product Design» was established on its basis.
The department’s staff consists of highly qualified specialists and possesses significant scientific and pedagogical potential. The main teaching staff includes graduates from universities in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ulan-Ude, Shakhty, Tashkent, as well as graduates of KSTU I. Razzakov.
Five professors from leading universities of the Russian Federation and Germany participate in the educational process, which contributes to improving the quality of training, developing international academic cooperation, and introducing advanced educational and scientific practices into the curriculum.
Within the framework of the 740700 field «Technology and Design of Light Industry Products», the following Bachelor programs are implemented:
• Designing of Sewing Products
• Sewing Technology
• Textile and Leather Technology
• Technology and Design of Textile and Light Industry Products
The educational program «Textile and Leather Technology» was developed jointly with the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences in Zwickau (Germany) and is implemented on the basis of the Kyrgyz-German Technical Institute. Students have the opportunity to study German in depth, complete a semester abroad, and undertake internships in Germany, ensuring a high level of professional and intercultural competence.
For the Master’s program, the educational program «Technology and Design of Textile and Light Industry Products» is implemented, focusing on advanced research and design-technological training of specialists.
The department has 274 undergraduate and 9 graduate students. It operates 9 modern laboratories equipped with specialized equipment and technical training facilities: computer classrooms with licensed Grafis 12 software, a plotter, interactive panels, modern sewing equipment, and devices for analyzing and determining material properties.
The department conducts research in key areas of light industry development. Scientific and pedagogical personnel are trained through postgraduate studies, contributing to the development of scientific potential and strengthening the department’s academic school.
Since 2025, the department has been training PhD students in the field 742000 «Technology of Consumer Goods» under the scientific and educational program «Technology of Production of Textile and Light Industry Products», opening opportunities for training highly qualified personnel for the industry and academic environment.
Currently, the department systematically works on improving educational technologies, updating curricula, and strengthening its material and technical base.
Since 2020, the department has been operating the Light Industry Training Center «Industry of Personnel», created with technical support from the Global Textile and Clothing Program (GTEX), implemented by the International Trade Centre (ITC), and funded by the Swiss Government.
The center provides professional training, retraining, and advanced training for light industry personnel using the latest technologies and modern educational approaches.
