Metrology and standardization
The Department of "Metrology and Standardization" was established in 2006 and is headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Almamatov M.Z.
The Department is one of the leading departments in the Kyrgyz Republic training specialists in the fields of standardization, conformity assessment (certification), quality management, and metrology. Currently, educational activities are carried out using innovative methods and technologies.
All companies and organizations are required to have special departments dealing with issues of metrology, standardization, certification, and quality management. Today, quality management, standardization, certification, and metrology play a leading role in the process of the Kyrgyz Republic becoming a full member of the WTO (World Trade Organization) and the Eurasian Union. Student training is conducted in accordance with State Educational Standards. Currently, 162 students are studying in these areas.
Mission of the Department of "Metrology and Standardization" — training highly qualified specialists possessing the necessary level of professional competencies in quality management, oriented towards innovation, and capable of competing in the conditions of economic development.
Goal of the Department — creating an effective learning system that meets the needs of students.
History of the Department
The Department traces its origins to 1954, with the opening of the Frunze Polytechnic Institute. At that time, the Department of "Machine Parts and Theory of Mechanisms and Machines" was established. Its first head was Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Dmitry Gilyarievich Stanko. In subsequent years, the department was led by prominent scientists and educators: G.S. Puchinyan, L.T. Dvornikov (24 years — a record term), Zh.U. Usubaliev, and others.
Over decades, it evolved, split, and merged: in 1971 it divided into "Machine Parts" and "Theory of Mechanisms and Machines," and in 1994 both were reunited into the Department of "Fundamentals of Machine Design." From 1994 to 2006, it was headed by M.Z. Almamatov and Zh.Zh. Turgumbaev.
In 2006, on the basis of the "Fundamentals of Machine Design" Department, a new graduating department "Metrology and Standardization" was formed. Since its establishment and to the present day, it has been headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Almamatov Maimambay Zakirovich.
Today, after nearly 70 years of history, from a fundamental machine science department, we have grown into the only department in Kyrgyzstan graduating specialists in metrology, standardization, and quality management — one of the most in-demand and modern.
