16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence
On December 6, 2024, a session dedicated to the international campaign “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” was held at the Polytechnic College of KSTU named after I. Razzakov. This campaign runs from November 25 to December 10, 2024, aiming to raise public awareness about violence against women and girls, as well as to create conditions for its prevention and elimination.
During the event, key issues were discussed, including: • Legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic on the protection of women’s and girls’ rights; • Various types of violence, including physical, emotional, and sexual; • The role of education and community in combating violence; • Ways to seek help for victims of violence; • The importance of education and social support in strengthening women’s rights and protecting victims, among others.
The session included lectures, quizzes, and discussions, along with informational materials aimed at fostering a culture of respect, equality, and mutual assistance among students.
A key highlight of the event was the active participation of college students, who demonstrated a keen interest in addressing this pressing social issue. Their engagement significantly contributed to raising awareness among their peers.
The “16 Days of Activism” campaign is held worldwide to emphasize the importance of uniting various social groups in the fight against violence and preventing its future occurrences. It encourages individuals, especially students, to recognize their role in this movement.
The session on “16 Days of Activism Against Violence Against Women and Girls” at the college was not just a series of events but also a unique opportunity to reflect on ways to make the world safer for women and girls. Every action matters—whether it’s supporting a victim, spreading awareness about legal and social measures, or participating in educational activities. It is essential to remember that creating a world free from violence, where women and girls can live in safety, respect, and dignity, depends on all of us.
At the conclusion of the session, our students came up with the following powerful slogans: #If you are pure, and I am pure, then society will be pure! #Extend a hand in help, not in threat! #No to violence – YES to freedom and respect! #Your strength lies in kindness – not in aggression! #Say NO to violence, YES to humanity! Be a voice of peace, not a weapon of pain!
We express our sincere gratitude to Masuma Ilyasovna Bashirova, Executive Director of the Association for the Development of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic, for organizing and conducting the session “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.”
