A series of annual conferences is organized by the Austrian-Central Asian Center for Geoinformation Science at our university, established back in 2008 with the support of the Eurasian-Pacific University Network (UNINET) together with the University of Salzburg in Austria.

It should be noted that since the creation of this center, several international projects have been implemented and are being implemented within the framework of the TEMPUS, Erasmus Mundus, Erasmus +, World Bank, Volkswagen Foundation, DAAD and other funds programs, and the first GISCA conference was held in 2005.

Scientific forums are held annually in the countries of Central Asia and China in English with the participation of universities, Academies of Sciences and research centers of Central Asia, Austria, China and production partners such as Trimble, UNINET, ESRI and GeoTwo from South Korea.

The main goal is to strengthen the Central Asian network of GIS professionals and support the sustainable socio-economic development of the region, and the main objectives are to unite scientists, educators and practitioners of GIS in Central Asian countries and encourage international cooperation and knowledge sharing in GIS education.

Conference proceedings are published in scientific journals included in the Scopus and RSCI databases. In addition, before and after the current conference, trainings are organized within the framework of the DEvision and GeoTAK projects.

The first of these is funded by the Austrian Agency for Education and Internationalization within the framework of the Austrian Partnership Program for Higher Education and Research, and it involves the University of Salzburg (Austria), as a coordinator, the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia, Yerevan State University and KSTU.

KSTU also takes part in it as a national coordinator, as well as the Osh Technological University. M. Adyshev, Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic and the State Cartographic and Geodetic Service of the State Agency for Land Resources under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic. Here, the main goals are to develop postgraduate programs in the field of geoinformation technologies and to strengthen links in the field of research and innovation between universities, industry and management.

Within the framework of this project, 3 PhD doctoral programs were developed at KSTU and doctoral students were recruited in them.
