In 1999, she graduated from the Kyrgyz State Technical University named after I. Razzakov (KSTU) with a Bachelor degree in “Technology of food preservation and food concentrates”; In 2001 she graduated from the master's program with a degree in Food Technology. In 2002, she began her doctoral studies at KSTU. In 2004, she received a scholarship from the President of the Kyrgyz Republic “Personnel of the 21st Century” for doctoral studies at the Institute of Food Technology and Chemistry of Technical University of Berlin. On October 25, 2007, she successfully defended her dissertation on the topic “Determination of the functional and material properties of selected varieties of honey” and received the academic degree “Doctor of Engineering” (PhD). Nostrification of this degree was carried out by the National Attestation Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic on May 25, 2017.

From 2008 to 2018, she went through stages of professional growth at the Department of Food Engineering of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University. She has international research and teaching experience not only in the Kyrgyz Republic, but also in Germany and Switzerland. With the support of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), she conducted several research trips and graduate seminars at the Technical University of Berlin. In 2013–2014, she won a scholarship from the Federal Commission for Scholarships for International Students (ESKAS) and completed a research internship at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich in the Institute of Nutrition and Health.

In 2018-2020, she was appointed to the position of Professor at the Technical University of Dresden as Acting Head of the Department of "Nutritional Sciences, Food and Household Economics/Vocational Education".

In 2022-2024 she worked as a research fellow at the Max Rubner Federal Research Institute for Nutrition and Food.

In 2020 Smanalieva J.N. was appointed to the Department of Food Production Technologies as an Associate Professor and is currently working as an Associate Professor. She gives main lectures in the disciplines “Nutrition”, “Food Toxicology”, “Functional Food Ingredients” and supervises the research projects of master’s and doctoral students.

She is currently a researcher at the Department of Food Chemistry at the Technical University of Dresden. Together with Professor Thomas Henle, she leads a sub-project of the international project “SUFACHAIN – Promoting sustainable land management through the development of products, (technological) processes and SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) in the field of non-product forestry and agroforestry value chains in Central Asia”, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Science (BMBF).

Her list of publications includes more than 60 works.
