To obtain a master's degree in software engineering, a student will have to learn:
- create new tools, methods and techniques necessary to carry out the process of studying software engineering objects, based on unified trends in the development of the professional field;
- develop programs and projects aimed at meeting requirements, as well as carry out control and management functions;
- use a systems approach, modeling and structural analysis to complete design tasks;
- apply the latest technologies in the field of designing software packages and systems, using automation tools in the processes of planning, management and quality control of designed products;
- plan and coordinate work during the development of software applications;
- act as an expert in training users in the necessary skills to use the product;
- carry out analysis and draw conclusions based on the information received, creating a technical and economic basis to justify the decisions made;
- make a choice in favor of an economic or technical development model and support the software product at all stages of the life cycle;
- optimize the adopted design and technological solutions, providing the necessary conditions for maintaining a high level of quality of objects.

Masters in this field focus their efforts on developing skills and gaining experience in the engineering field. Within this direction, they can work as developers or designers of information systems. They also need to perform analytical functions, and masters often combine the skills of programmers. The main area of activity is communication and network software engineering.
