About the importance of choosing a specialty or why I am an engineer

I have successfully completed my studies at I. Razzakov KSTU (2016, 2018) and ITMO University, St. Petersburg, Russia (2018). I have three specialized educations – New Materials, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering. I am combining postgraduate studies at ITMO University – "Organization and management of digital production".
Since 2017 I have been working at JSC OKAN, Saint Petersburg, Russia (Nuclear Engineering). He started from the position of Project Engineer, strength calculations of thermal mechanical equipment. Today I am engaged in the development of new business areas of the company: special metallurgy and the organization of new productions. Working in an international company, I travel a lot around Russia and the world.
I want to share with readers my thoughts on vocation, profession, setting goals and implementing plans.
A number of factors influenced my choice of university and direction: belonging to a family dynasty of engineers and scientists, understanding the importance and necessity of having a technical education to implement my own projects, a natural craving for technical sciences and invention.
Why has technical education become relevant again?
Stable economic growth is associated with the level of development of innovative technologies and business models that allow providing the buyer with the highest quality product at the optimal price. At the same time, the source of any qualitative improvements are ambitious, talented and qualified specialists who are able to generate, justify and implement new ideas and projects.
It is especially important to understand in what extremely difficult economic conditions our country exists. We need people who are ready to take part in large-scale projects for the industrialization of all sectors of the economy. There is a lot of work to be done.
Why is it important to have a technical base?
The use of new materials, automation of processes, data processing and analysis are the three pillars of a modern successful industrial business. In order to keep up with the times and meet the demands of the market, young professionals need to have developed soft-skills, a strong theoretical background and cross-industry competencies: knowledge, skills and skills how to create projects and develop technological products using new technologies and materials, working with data, the basics of law and financial calculations.

You can live without a goal, but it's not effective. To live without having and not realizing your vocation is not an optimally spent resource of youth. It is limited and it is important to understand this now. If you suddenly realize that it's time to change your specialty after or during training (for example, before graduation), then this is only your right and choice, but do not forget about the responsibility for the decision — the time will be lost. Youth is too short to be wrong).
I.Razzakov KSTU is the best that our country can give us for young people. This is a "Forge" that will help you unlock your potential to join the ranks of future leaders and managers, pioneers of new thought and inventors who can change the world around us.
Looking back, I understand that the decision I made to become an engineer allowed me to be where I am now and strive further, opening up broad prospects for professional and personal growth, achieving new goals and implementing plans.
And what else is useful? What will it give you?
When deciding to study at a technical university, pay attention to the opportunities that it gives you: internships, research projects, conferences are an asset to your piggy bank of competencies and experience. It is with him that you will come to an interview in 4 years.
Life Hack. The first education is the basis of your future for the first 5 years. The state supports you by giving you the opportunity to "invest in yourself" — use it! Having a higher technical education is your foundation. If you do not pay now, you will pay consultants for training in 5 years.
Learn languages. Language is an investment that allows you to receive and absorb advanced experience and technology. The vast scientific and technical base of the Soviet Union has been preserved in Russian, and the scientific knowledge of the Western world is in English. Everything new is well–forgotten old, and therefore you will not build a new one without understanding the principles of what was created by previous generations.
Do not skip all special disciplines, any knowledge is capital: without knowing the copromat, you reset the applicability of structural design skills, without understanding the basics of development and project management, you ruin any idea initially.
Bachelor's degree is a base.
A master's degree is an opportunity to adjust your vector.
Graduate school is a sandbox, a time to create startups.

Until recently, I was a student of I. Razzakov KSTU. I am a graduate of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology. He graduated from the specialty with a red diploma. The knowledge gained at our department fully allowed me to enroll in the master's program, in one of the strongest technical universities in Russia. At the moment I am studying at the Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Department of Robotics and Complex Automation.
I would like to wish the future students of our dear department a true desire to study in your chosen specialty, to contribute in every way to the development of your chosen direction, to be hardworking.
