The Department of Applied Informatics at KSTU operates in accordance with state educational standards, working curricula, and schedules, as approved by the rector of KSTU. The department implements innovative teaching technologies based on a competency-based approach for training bachelors and masters.
Educational Process Organization:
The educational process is organized in compliance with the credit technology of education (ECTS), approved by the rector of KSTU. The educational programs in “Applied Informatics” and “Software Engineering” are part of the educational-methodological association (UMA) at KSTU.
Curriculum and Program Updates:
The bachelor’s and master’s programs in Applied Informatics (710300) and Software Engineering (710400) were developed in 2015 and 2021. The department updates work programs and teaching materials every two years. These updates include course prerequisites, competencies, teaching methods, assessment policies, and syllabi, which are reviewed annually. Coursework and projects are defended before a commission, and final qualifying works (FQW) are presented with multimedia support.
Internships and Practical Training:
The department provides end-to-end internship programs for students. Upon completion, students prepare reports and present them for review by a commission. Master's students also undergo teaching and research practices, as well as scientific and production practices at external enterprises. The SRS schedule is approved by the department head, and independent work is monitored according to a posted schedule.
Teaching and Educational Standards:
Teaching staff members work according to individual plans, with their performance monitored by the department head and other administrative bodies. The department oversees 66 undergraduate and 44 master's courses, ensuring each course is supported with educational and methodological resources.
Performance and Quality Assurance:
Student performance is regularly discussed at department meetings. The department's members have completed training on "University management based on international rules - ISO 9001" and aim to prepare competent specialists in high demand by the market.
Ranking and Achievements:
The field of Computer Science and Information Technology ranks second in the 2021 Independent Ranking of Kyrgyz Universities, with the Applied Informatics program also taking second place.
