History of the department

History of the department

By the end of the 60s of the last century, electronics in the form of instruments and methods began to rapidly be introduced into a variety of fields of science and technology, ensuring increased efficiency in production and scientific research. This required appropriate training of engineering personnel produced by the FPI. In this regard, in 1968, a department called “Electronics and Computer Engineering” was organized. In 1976, on the basis of the department of “Electronics and Computer Engineering”, the departments of “ACS and VT” and “Radioelectronics” were created. The Department of Radio Electronics remained a general engineering department for 11 years, the task of which was to provide teaching of the basics of electronics to students of non-electrical engineering faculties , as well as radio engineering disciplines at the Faculty of Energy.

Due to the great need of the republic for radio engineers, since 1987 the department began to graduate in the specialty T.25.308. “Design and technology of radio-electronic equipment.” Since 1996, the department was called “Radio electronics and telecommunications”.

Since 1993, the department began training personnel in the T-25 areas. "Radioelectronics" and T.04. “Telecommunications” in the specialties T.25.308 “Design and technology of radio-electronic equipment”, T-04.309 “Radio communications, radio broadcasting and television” and T.04.311 “Communication networks and communication systems”. In 2000, the department was divided into two departments - “Telecommunications” and “Radioelectronics” and they became part of a new independent division of KSTU - the Department of Telecommunications.

Since 2003, the department has been preparing the graduation of highly qualified specialists in the specialties 552501.01 “Radio Engineering”, 550401.02 “Radio Communications, Radio Broadcasting and Television” and 550401.05 “Means of Communication with Mobile Objects”.

In 2011, the Department of Telecommunications was transformed into the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications and the Department of Radio Electronics as part of this institute began training bachelors and masters in the profiles “Mobile communication and radio access systems” and “Digital television and audio broadcasting” in the direction 690300 - “Infocommunication technologies and communication systems" and "Radio engineering" in the direction 690200 - "Radio engineering".

In September 2022, in order to consolidate the structural divisions of the university, two departments were merged: “Radio electronics” and “Telecommunications”. Currently, the department is called “Infocommunication Technologies” and trains bachelors and masters in the areas 690300 – “Infocommunication Technologies and Communication Systems” and 690200 – “Radio Engineering”.
