History of the department of architecture


The Department of Architecture was established in 1967 as the first special department training future architects of Kyrgyzstan, within the framework of the Bishkek Polytechnic Institute.

The department was organized on the initiative of the famous architect Pavel Petrovich Ivanov. At that time, the department included architects, artists, and art historians. The following stages of the department's formation can be conventionally distinguished:

from 1967 to 1973 The leading practicing architects of the republic worked in the department - M. Omurkulov, V. E. Nusov, V.A. Golubev, K. Melikhov, A. S. Shkaev, M. Muksinov and others. The management of the department was headed by P.P. Ivanov. The first graduation of architects took place in 1970. Among the first graduates were A. Tokbaev, K. Alykulov, Y. Tagirov, I Kadyrbekov, V. Fokht and others. from 1974 to 1980 worked at the department - M.A. Manuilova, V. Kurbatov, I. Kadyrbekov, G. A. Konduchalova, V. Fokht, A. Tokbaev, D. D. Omuraliev and others. From 1974 to 1981. The department was headed by Doctor of Architecture, Professor V.V. Kurbatov.

          from 1981 to 1990 The composition of the department included V. Grigoriev, T. Lunkina, V. Orozumbekov, N. Mikhailov, Yu. N. Smirnov, R. M. Muksinov, K. Sarbanov, Sh. Dzhekshenbaev, I. G. Ivanova, B. A. Sarymsakova, I. V. Tonkiy, B. D. Tyan, E. Marechek, N. Mukhortova, V. Litvinov, Zh. Tabyshaliev, B. Kariev, A. Pastukhov and others.

          From 1983 to 2024, the department was headed by Doctor of Architecture, Professor, Academician of the International Academy of Architecture of the Eastern Countries D.D. Omuraliev. From 1991 to 2000, a new staff of teachers came to the department - K. Satayev, R. Kokoyev, A. Kozhaliyev, A. M. Nasirdinova, B. Choturaliev, E. Konurbayev, A. Soltobayev, T. Keneshev and others.

         from 2001 to 2024, U. Tashkulov, K. R. Kurmanaliev, R. S. Mamkin, O. V. Volichenko, L. M. Vedutova, K. Abdrakov, K. Zh. Narbaev, T. A. Osmonaliev, M. Abdyldaev, Yu. I.          In 2020, the Department of Architecture has become a kind of center of national architecture.

In connection with the introduction of a two-stage higher education, teachers of the Architecture Department are actively preparing and adapting students to the new education system: the specifics of completing and defending diploma projects in the Bachelor and Master's programs are being worked out.Each student is provided with a search for a topic, determination of its relevance and novelty, methods of working on the graphic part, moral support and preparation for the presentation at the defense. Students of the department annually take an active part in university, Republican and international competitions of the best diploma projects.

      The teachers and staff of the department have defended a total of 4 doctoral and more than a dozen candidate dissertations. The department has published more than 30 monographs, 10 textbooks, and dozens of scientific collections. Based on the department's accumulated experience, a whole galaxy of architects and teachers has grown up. In 1979, the Faculty of Architecture was created on the basis of the department.

       Other related departments were organized, such as the "History of Architecture", which was then renamed the "Fundamentals of Architectural Design" department (1981), and on its basis the "Restoration and Reconstruction" department. The "Urban Planning" (1995), "Design of the Architectural Environment" (1994), "Design of the Urban Environment and Landscape" (2003) departments were organized from among the teachers of the "Architecture" department.

In total, from 1967 to 2025, the department trained more than three thousand architects. The department is proud of its graduates, including: K. Narbayev, I. Kadyrbekov, Zhekshenbayev, K. Nazarov - laureates of the Toktogul State Prize, honored architects of the republic - K. Kombarbayev, A. Tursunov, K. Ibrayev, T. Keneshov and many others.
