Association of Asian Universities (AAU)

The Association of Asian Universities (AAU) was established in May 2013 at its founding congress with the participation of delegations from 27 universities representing 8 countries worldwide.

The first President of the AAU was elected Sergey Zemlyukov, Rector of Altai State University. In September 2020, Kanat Zhalilovich Sadykov, Rector of Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn, was elected President of the Association of Asian Universities.

What is the Association of Asian Universities?

The purpose of establishing the Association is to form a unified Asian educational space, intensify integration processes in higher education, promote academic mobility and expand cultural ties among universities of the Asian region, improve the quality of training of university-educated specialists, and increase the effectiveness of scientific research.

Main objectives of the Association:

  • formation of a unified Asian educational space and a common level of requirements for the content of university education, as well as assistance in the recognition of diplomas of universities that are members of the Association;

  • enhancement of the role of university education and science, and transformation of member universities into leading educational, scientific, and public centers of Asian countries;

  • organization of international cooperation among member universities in the fields of educational-methodological and scientific research activities;

  • development and implementation of joint educational programs;

  • exchange of experience in the field of higher professional education and scientific research;

  • organization and conduct of international scientific and methodological conferences, seminars, research activities, internships, and practical training;

  • assistance in addressing issues of career guidance and support for gifted youth.

Kyrgyzstan – 15 member universities;
Mongolia – 3 member universities;
Russia – 22 member universities;
Tajikistan – 12 member universities;

Thailand – 1 member university;
Malaysia – 1 member university;
Afghanistan – 4 member universities.

Within the framework of the Association of Asian Universities, a number of joint activities are held:

  • International Summer Schools of Asian Ethnography;

  • Annual General Assemblies of the Association of Asian Universities;

  • II Asian Student Forum “Kyrgyzstan–Asia – 2015”;

  • III Asian Student Forum “Altai–Asia – 2017”;

  • IV Asian Student Forum “Tajikistan–Asia – 2019”;

  • IV International Educational Forum “Altai–Asia – 2020”.
