Favorable conditions for fruitful research work have been created at the Department of "HaR,BaT". Staff training and obtaining degrees of candidates and doctors of sciences at the department is carried out through postgraduate studies, doctoral studies and job seekers.
Every year, at the beginning of the academic year, a research and development plan of the department is drawn up. The main topics of the department are: improving the transport and operational qualities of mountain roads; seismic protection of girder bridges; road and climatic zoning of the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic; airfields with non-rigid pavement taking into account local conditions of the Kyrgyz Republic; development of models of earthquake-resistant bridge structures; bridge design in mountainous areas of the Republic, etc. Research work with students is carried out at the department in accordance with the planned hours in the individual teaching staff plan. The research work of the scientists of the department is closely related to the educational process, theory and practice, the competence acquired by the student, which contributes to improving the quality of graduate training. The most qualified students are involved in the implementation of research.
The results of scientific research and innovative developments are introduced into the educational process by the department during training sessions, diploma design and in the preparation of work programs.
The department has formed and creatively employs a team of scientists, teachers, graduate students, and applicants who are able to solve high scientific and practical tasks. Currently, the department has a modern material and technical base: computer class, modern software, technically designed classrooms, etc.
The scientific activity of the department is focused on research on the development of theoretical foundations for optimization and improvement of transport and operational qualities of highways in difficult conditions of high-altitude terrain.
Research works provide important engineering and technical assistance to road organizations in making effective decisions on the design, construction and operation of highways in the Republic.
