For Applicants
Welcome, Dear Applicant!
Department of Underground Mining of Mineral Deposits
The Department of Underground Mining of Mineral Deposits was established in 1955 and is a graduating department. At that time, the mining industry in Kyrgyzstan was developing rapidly, and the country urgently needed qualified mining engineers. During its formation and development, the department was led by prominent mining specialists and talented educators, including Candidates of Technical Sciences Medvedev K.D., Imaraliev A.I., Zhetigenov B.Zh., and Doctors of Technical Sciences, Professors Baranov E.G., Tangaev I.A., and Mambetov Sh.A.
Since 1993, the department has been headed by Academician Kozhogulov Kamchibek Chonmurunovich, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, a leading scientist and author of over 400 scientific works, including 14 monographs, 3 textbooks and teaching manuals, and 14 patents and invention certificates.
Currently, the department staff includes 1 Doctor of Sciences and 2 Candidates of Sciences: D.Sc. Kozhogulov K.Ch., C.Sc. Tajibayev D.K., and C.Sc. Kadyralieva G.A.
Academic Work
The department’s educational activities are diverse and focused on improving the quality of specialist training. This work is based on the development of educational, methodological, and technical resources, careful selection of faculty, and a creative approach to designing standard, core, and practical curricula, as well as teaching materials for specialized subjects.
Research Focus
The main scientific areas of the department include:
- Assessment of stress states in rock masses
- Study of manifestations of rock pressure
- Selection and justification of mining technologies
- Determination of development system parameters
- Evaluation of physical and mechanical properties of rocks
Faculty and staff regularly conduct research under state-funded and contractual projects. Current research focuses on developing theoretical foundations and reliable methods for controlling rock pressure to ensure the stability of underground workings, especially in structurally complex deposits.
Graduates
Over the past 65 years, the department has trained more than 1,000 mining engineers, now working in mines and quarries across the CIS and abroad. Graduates are found not only in the industrial sector but also among leading scientists, government officials, and ministry executives in Kyrgyzstan. Many alumni successfully work internationally.
Programs and Specializations
The department offers higher education in Specialty 630003 “Mining” with specializations in “Underground Mining of Mineral Deposits” and “Mine and Underground Construction,” awarding the qualification of Mining Engineer.
Graduates may work in mining enterprises, research and design institutes, expert groups, and in the design and construction of mining roads, hydroelectric dams, tailings dams, geotechnical surveys in mountainous regions, environmental studies, and geoecological assessments of mining operations.
Specialization Overview: Underground Mining of Mineral Deposits
Effective economic development of an independent sovereign state requires qualified personnel, especially in priority sectors such as mining. Kyrgyzstan possesses significant mineral resources, including gold, tin, tungsten, antimony, mercury, and other rare metals, most of which are mined underground. Therefore, specialists in underground mining are essential for efficient and safe resource development.
Specialization Overview: Mine and Underground Construction
This specialization trains mining engineers for work in design, research, and production enterprises responsible for creating project documentation and developing new or improving existing technologies for constructing mines, quarries, tunnels, subways, and underground facilities (e.g., gas storage, water pipelines, oil storage).
Given the strategic importance of these sectors, training highly qualified engineers in these specializations is both necessary and highly relevant today.
