The first head of the department "Higher Mathematics" was the first rector of the FPI, Professor Georgy Akimovich Sukhomlinov. At first, 7 teachers worked at the department.

The department is continuously working to improve its educational and methodological level.

The department has always been staffed by experienced teachers, candidates and doctors of science. Each of them made his own contribution to increasing the educational, scientific and methodological potential of the department and to expanding the base of scientific and methodological literature. It should be noted the active work in the organization of educational, scientific and methodological processes of the work of the department of the following figures: Professor Sukhomlinov G.A.; Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member. RAS Imanalieva M.I. (who worked in 1961-62 as Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the FPI); Professor Usubakunov R.U. (who worked as vice-rector of the FPI for academic work in 1962-1969); doctor of technical sciences, professor, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic Akaev A.A.; doctor of technical sciences, corresponding member. NAS KR Ormonbekova T.O.; Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Rafatov R.R.; Candidates of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professors Artyushenko L.I., Belobrova V.N., Tazabekova R.T., Pakhyrov Z.P.

The department is engaged in scientific research on the following topic: "Qualitative theory of differential, integro-differential equations and their applications." Working in this direction, teachers of the department participate in many republican and international conferences. Periodically teachers of the department published monographs and scientific articles. Since the day the department was founded, more than 450 scientific articles have been published in the republic and abroad. Written one scientific monograph.
