Currently, the department's educational activities are provided by seven faculty members, including one Doctor of Sciences, one Candidate of Technical Sciences, one Candidate of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, three senior lecturers, and one lecturer.
Scientific research at the department is conducted on the following topics:
- "Optimization of drilling processes in complex geological conditions"
- "Investigation of variations in geomagnetic and electromagnetic fields within the faults of the Northern Tien Shan."
The department actively engages in scientific research, organizes student internships, and facilitates graduate employment in various domestic and international organizations, including:

Currently, the department trains students for the qualification of Mining Engineer-Geologist. Students who successfully graduate from the university and wish to pursue an academic degree can continue their studies in postgraduate programs.
The educational program at the department is conducted under the specialty 63002 "Geological Exploration Technology", with the following specializations:
- Geophysical methods for prospecting and exploration of mineral deposits
- Techniques and technology of mineral exploration
- Oil and gas geophysics
- Drilling of wells for liquid and gaseous minerals
- Geophysical well logging
