The Department of «Architectural renovation» was established in 1998, since then it has been one of the graduating departments of KSUCTA, since 2022 it has become a part of the Institute of Architecture and Design (IAD) at KSTU .Until 2017, architects-restorers (specialists) were graduating. Since 2013, the department has switched to two-level academic teaching in the direction of 750300 "Restoration and reconstruction of architectural heritage" (bachelor and master). Since 2021, the teaching of PhD students has been included.
In 2018, the master's program «Architectural renovation» received a diploma from the Agency for Quality Assurance in Education sphere "EdNet" as the best program in the nomination "Practice-Integrated Education". The subject of research «Architectural renovation» has many years of close relations with the Scientific Research Design Institute Kyrgyzrestavratsiya, where the branch of the department is located. In the workshops of this research institute, training sessions and students' internships are held, they have a laboratory base and archival materials about historical and cultural monuments, without which a full-fledged educational process is impossible.
A great contribution to the formation and development of the RRAH direction was made by Professor, Ph.D. of Architecture Imankulov Jumamedel Dzhumabaevich, who headed the department from 1998 to 2018. It should also be noted that the most experienced personnel of Kyrgyzstan for the preservation of heritage were trained at the department - architect, historian of architecture Merkulova Svetlana Sergeevna, chemist-restorer Sitnikova Nadezhda Alexandrovna, historian of art Voronina Anna Alexandrovna and others. Over the past five years, students of the institute have participated in many competitions, where they were awarded diplomas and most of them became winners. Graduates became laureates of international competitions, recognized as the best in international competitions of diploma works of national architectural schools of the CIS and foreign countries: Italy, China, Spain, Turkey, France, the United Arab Emirates, etc.
The department especially notes the participation and victory in the 13th International Competition "Progecting of a multi-comfort house Saint-Gobain" in 2017; in 2020, graduates' projects received diplomas at the All-Russian Festival "Drivers of the Development of a Modern City". Over the past few years, employees have been awarded diplomas of the Union of Architects of Kyrgyzstan for the best projects and restoration of architectural monuments;
Ph.D of Architecture D.D. Imankulov was awarded certificates and diplomas of International Association of Unions of Architects (Moscow);
Musakeev N. became a Diploma winner of the State Youth Prize named after Ch. Aitmatov;
The book of Professor D.D. Imankulov “Architecture of Turkestan of the Karakhanid era” was awarded the Grand Prix of the Second Baku International Architectural Competition in the nomination “The Best Printed Edition of the Year in the Field of Architecture” in 2015.
