ELBA Project

In 2019, Kyrgyz State Technical University named after I. Razzakov won an international project under the Erasmus+ programme on ‘Establishing training and research centres and developing courses on big data intelligent analysis in Central Asia (ELBA)’. The project is coordinated by the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain).

The project is scheduled to last three years, with a total budget of €994,968, of which €74,978 is allocated to KSTU.

Project objective:

To promote cooperation in education between the EU and partner countries.

To support the modernisation, accessibility and internationalisation of higher education in partner countries.

The project aims to enhance the academic capacity of specialists at KSTU by developing and implementing an interdisciplinary package of modular courses for bachelors, masters and specialists in big data intellectual analysis (BDI) through cooperation with industry.

Structurally, the ELBA project consists of seven work packages:

WP1 Preparation: Mobility to Europe, Training in modern pedagogical technologies based on EU experience, Review and analysis of academic and industrial spheres where IABD is mainly in demand in Central Asian countries, Analysis of EU programmes on IABD.

WP2 Professional development: Development of a programme and delivery of a webinar on English language training for CS staff, Training CS staff in English, Training CS researchers in the EU in IBDA methodologies and skills using relevant software, Retraining CS researchers in IBDA by EU experts at CS partners' research institutes.

WP3 Interdisciplinary IBDA course package: Development of necessary IBDA course programmes, Development of a course based on the IBDA module, Testing of developed IBDA courses through experimental implementation, Review and validation of IBDA courses.

WP4 IBDA centres and network in CA partner universities: Purchase of equipment/literature and installation of software for IBDA centres, Development and creation of a professional and academic IBDA network between project partners.

WP5 Quality plan: Training in the use of cloud project management platforms via webinar, Quality control and monitoring of project activities using the implemented cloud project management platform, External experience of developed course packages and IABD centres, Preparation of the final project report based on the implemented cloud project management platform.

WP6 Dissemination and exploitation: development of a roadmap for information dissemination and monitoring of project information dissemination using a cloud management platform, Development of a project website, dissemination of IABD training courses and project expertise among regional educational and industrial circles, organisation of an IABD knowledge base shared via the project website; Organisation of an IABD application competition between CA partner universities, expansion of cooperation between industry and CA-EU partner universities.

WP7: Definition of partner responsibilities during the project, management of all academic activities, management of administrative and financial work.

During the project, the university will develop an interdisciplinary package of modular courses on IAAD for bachelor's and master's programmes, create a teaching and research centre for a total of €23,512, and establish an academic and professional network of IAAD specialists among partner universities in Central Asia. The project consortium consists of partners from three EU universities and ten Central Asian countries, as well as eleven partners from industry and education.

Staff from the PME and POKS departments and the international relations department are involved in the implementation of the project.
