At the end of the 90s, in the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic there was an acute shortage of specialist surveyors and geodesists in the mining industry, and therefore, in 2000, by order No. 01/35, the department of “Mine Surveying and GIS Technologies” was created, which is a graduating educational structure Kyrgyz Mining and Metallurgical Institute named after academician U. Asanaliev. The first graduation of certified mining engineers-surveyors took place in 1999 on the basis of the Department of Mineral Deposit Development at IGD&GT.

Laboratory base. Today, the department of “Mine Surveying and GIS Technologies” has material and technical bases that are constantly expanding and updated with new, fairly wide sets of modern surveying and geodetic instruments, a computer class and laboratories equipped with multimedia systems that correspond to the advanced level of modern production. Part of the educational laboratory and practical classes are conducted at the summer training ground in the Kegety mountain gorge.

In December 2013, 15 computers with licensed Micromine software were transferred to the department for training university staff and students.
