The first mining engineers, geologists were graduated in 1956 (forty two spe- cialists), and in 1958 twenty three spe- cialists — mining engineers.
The Institute trained more than 6,000 engineers in geology, mining, hydro- geology, mining electro mechanics, engi- neers in mining machines, in metallurgy, ecology etc.
There are three faculties in the Institute (Mining and Metallurgical, Geological prospecting, Ecology and Economics) and also the Kyrgyz Institute of Mineral Raw materials and Geological Museum.
High qualified professor staff works at the institute: two academicians, three Corresponding Members of the National Academy of Sciences, two academi- cians of the International Engineering Academy, twelve doctors and fifty two candidates of sciences.
Training of the specialists is carrying out in close cooperation with mining companies: OJSC “KyrgyzAltyn”, State Committee on Geology and Mineral resources, Kumtor Operating Company and others. Institute graduates are demanded in the mining, ore processing, metallurgy and oil industry in the Kyrgyz Republic, and ab-road.

Scientific work of the Institute is de- voted to the investigation of precious and nonferrous rare, rare earth, other metals, oil and gas. Great attention is paid to the geoecological, water and hydrocarbon problems, and to the issues of environmen- tal protection The partners of the IMMT:
