Hydro4Planners Testing Workshop Kicks Off at KSTU
On September 30, 2026, a two-day workshop on testing the Hydro4Planners decision-support tool, developed as part of the international Hydro4U project, kicked off at the I. Razzakov Kyrgyz State Technical University (KSTU).
The workshop is being held on September 30 and October 1 at KSTU and focuses on the sustainable development of hydropower and small hydropower in Central Asian countries.
The workshop aims to introduce participants to the Hydro4U project and the capabilities of Hydro4Planners, as well as demonstrate the practical application of the Water–Energy–Food Nexus (WEF Nexus) approach, which is based on a comprehensive understanding of the interconnections between water resources, energy, and food systems.
The program includes presentations by experts from CARTIF and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), hands-on work with Hydro4Planners, and testing of various planning scenarios. Participants will have the opportunity to assess the tool’s functionality and its applicability to hydropower-related challenges while taking into account the specific conditions of Central Asia.
A dedicated part of the program focuses on interactive work with NEXAREA, which enables participants to explore the interconnections between water resources, energy, food, the environment, and economic and social factors, as well as to practice approaches to collaborative decision-making.
Following the workshop, participants will provide feedback on the functionality and practical applicability of Hydro4Planners. The results will be used to further improve the tool and adapt it to the conditions of Central Asia.
The Hydro4U project is implemented with financial support from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme.
