Geology Prospecting Faculty is one of the oldest educational subdivision of Mining and Mine Technologies Institute, was formed in 1952 on the base of the “Geography\” Department of Kyrgyz State University. In 1954, on the base of \”Mining Geology\” mining geological faculty was opened. The faculty as independent structural unit has been functioning since 1993.
There are four departments:
- Mining Geology;
- Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology;
- Geophysical prospecting;
- Oil and Gas Geology.
The faculty trains mining engineers engaged in the prospecting of ground- waters (including thermo-mineral waters). They carry out a quantitative and qualita- tive evaluation of ground waters, predict and prevent catastrophic phenomena (landslides, floods, earthquakes). Specialists – graduators in geologies pros- pecting technology conduct search and prospecting of mineral deposits, develop technology and techniques of prospec- ting deposits drill oil and gas wells. Engine- ers geophysics study the crustal structure using geophysical methods to search and prospect mineral deposits, including oil and gas.
