It was established in 1996 as Kyzyl-Kyi branch of Kyrgyz Mining and Metallurgical Institute.
In 2005, the Institute became a member of the Kyrgyz State University of Mining as the Southern Institute of Mining, transport, economy and communication. In 2006 it was reorganized into Kyzyl-Kyi Institute of Nature management and geo- technology of KSTU.
Outstanding scientist, laureate of the State Prize of the USSR, academician, Doc- tor of geological-mineralogical sciences, Asanaliev Usengazy Asanalievich was at the root of the Institute establishing. Development of the mining industry is one of the priority tasks of economic development of Kyrgyzstan.
One thousand and five hundred engine- ers and specialists graduated from the Institute.
It has strong ties with major industrial companies in the south of Kyrgyzstan: Aydarken mercury plant, Kadamzhai antimony plant, Kyzyl-Kyi cement factory etc.
